I came across a new (to me) subject today while scanning the agents' posts... Rachelle Gardner talked about foreshadowing vs telegraphing.
There are a few surprises hiding on the pages of my WIP. It's not really a suspense novel, but I still want my readers to be surprised at the proper time. Rachelle's post discusses whether or not, and how much hinting should be included in the body of your ms.
I found it very enlightening, as it is a subject I have not yet seen discussed. Check it out...

A few twists, turns and surprises are always good in a story. I have read some books that I knew what was going to happen every turn of the page, I rarely finish one like that.
I think you have it right, not really a suspense novel but still surprise the reader once in awhile. Make the reader want to turn the page.
Just my two cents,
Judy
I must go check it out. I haven't read it yet, but I too have some mystery involved, and I often wonder about how much foreshadowing to do. Thanks for sharing. I'm going over now.
Whew, for a minute there I thought there might be a new virus lurking in telegraphs. "dear reader. stop. verify account number. stop. social security number too. stop."
LOL
man, all I do is tell a story, hmmm. maybe I need mystery, naw, it's a mystery that i even write.
You may not accept awards, but I've decided to honor you with one anyway cause you deserve it. (:
I like mysteries but if I can see through it clearly I go to the end to see if I'm right.
All books have to have a reason to turn the page Judy is right. You are a great writer, just keep up the good work. (then we can say we knew you before you were rich and famous!!)
