Just to clarify... If I follow your blog, I do NOT critique your grammar... unless, maybe, you claim to be an aspiring writer. Even then, not unless it's terribly obvious you slept through all your high school English classes. Here in Blogville, we're relaxed and informal. I'm sure there are grammatical errors on publishers' blogs. I read your blogs for enlightenment, amusement... many different reasons.
This morning's post was meant to educate, not blast. I don't want any of my followers to read my blog and get that feeling you sometimes have when the pastor seems like he's talking straight to you! I can assure my regular readers that you are not the blog authors I was referring to. (...or should I write, 'to whom I was referring'?) So before you waste valuable blog time editing your post... don't worry... be happy! (I love that song!)
I was wondering... (while we're on this subject) Do you think that today's texting generation is affecting the way people write? I have observed that, as texting became more popular, the abbreviations often used began to creep into e-mails and blog posts. Even I sometimes will include a ROFL or LOL; but I'm referring to the habit of not spelling out words. For example: nt splng ot wrds. I have more than a couple of friends that actually write me letters this way! Sometimes it takes me awhile to figure out what they're talking about. I know some people use their phones to send e-mails and that's why they abbreviate... But seriously folks... Wtz t hry?

I've had non-writers in my life who found out I was a writer and suddenly could no longer e-mail or text me. They were that convinced I was editing everything they sent me. I just laughed. Yes, there are mistakes that scream out at me but I try to ignore them UNLESS...
There was once a snobbish wannabe writer type I dated who constantly derailed authors for beginning sentences with "And" and "But." Yet his blogs were full of improperly used "it's." He honestly wrote ours as "our's" and theirs as "their's." Drove me crazy but I didn't say a word. He would have been very hateful if I'd corrected him on that.
U r so cor2xect wth tht! Almst evry1 here r doing tht & I hate it! Teens oftntmes txtd me ths way & I cnt evn read & rl8te. LMAO! But I stll ncourge thm 2 spll wrds crrctly!

I have never worried about anything you have said to me. I do agree about the texting. It has caused many to rush through letters and notes. Things are going too fast as it is, now we can't even write full sentences.
Oh well TTYL, HAGD, LOL Anne
Stephanie, As far as I know, no one avoids writing me because of that. I hope not anyway. It does seem a lot of people are oblivious to their own mistakes, while quite eager to point out others'.
Al, You made your point! I read Anne's and laughed... Then yours and hurt my brain... I thought, "Oh no! What have I started?" ROFL ;)
seriously...i have no idea what the last thing you wrote in your post even says. "what's the hurry?" totally scratching my head...
Even when I text, I write the whole word out, and my girls know to do the same when they text me. I can't read those abbreviations at all. But I suspect in the younger generation, they're all going to seem like they're writing in shorthand!
I'm the GEEK teen who texts without the text talk. I've actually been called a loser for typing correctly on the internet by some friends. This is the way I was taught though. My grammar is far from impeccable, but I've been typing this way since I was seven, when I was forced to take typing classes in school.
I don't disregard text talk as stupid though. While it does put me off a little because it isn't what I'm used to, I remind myself that the grammar is essentially the same- subject, verb, ect. Hm, I don't know how to correctly word that particular opinion about text talk and 'proper' grammar being essentially the same, but I'm in the ball park.
I guess, when it comes down to it, content is what I care about.
Awesome blog though! I feel a little more easy going about my crappy spelling since I know the majority of the blogging community won't consider me a total moron.
I got into the habit of doing a spell-check just to cover myself. I'm terrible, always correcting myself. You're absolutely right, blogs should be for enjoying, entertainment and encouragement. I think we also get a lot of support from blogging friends.
Upon reading your "about me", I too am looking for publication but haven't yet finished my book. Hope all goes well for you.
Best wishes, CJ xx
