I do most of my writing in my bedroom. I designed this house with my in-laws in mind, so we each have our own area at opposite ends of the house. From my room, I cannot hear their TV. I made our bedroom large enough for our sitting area. I have two wing-back recliners with a table between them.
When I look straight ahead from my chair, I can just barely see the neighbor's house, as the leaves are starting to fall. In the summer, I see only trees. When I look to the side, through the doors to my deck, I see pasture and more trees, sometimes goats and horses. It is a very peaceful setting... a true writer's paradise!
Beyond the pasture and woods is a bike path, which borders our property. The grandkids love that feature! Across the bike path, there was a welding shop. It was sold to some guys that cut firewood. Then it stood empty, waiting for the new owners. Well, they've moved in...
It is now home to a dance school. How nice. Apparently, the instructors believe in fresh air. Yes, they do routines outside the building. Ordinarily it wouldn't matter, since it's so far away. Ordinarily one does not associate a loud bass drum with a dance class.
At first I thought there was someone parked on the bike path with those big woofers blaring. The bass sounded like a cadence for a marching band. I thought about putting on my industrial strength earmuffs, but decided it should quit soon. It didn't.
Hubby came in from splitting wood. "How do you like having a dance place next door?" he asked.
"Is that what that is?" I yelled over the ba-da-da-DUM, ba-da-da-DUM.
He smiled. "Every Saturday."
"Oh, well. Dance classes only last for about an hour, don't they?" I guess I'll write later...

Hi Lily -
Bummer. I love writing in the morning and appreciate quiet. Of course, I live on a main road. It seemed like every vehicle in the area decided to fly by my house this morning, including fire engines.
Thankfully, I still got 2,011 words written.
Blessings,
Susan :)
Sounds very interesting. I don't think I would get any writing done there ever. I would enjoy gazing out over the pastures too much.
I'm sorry it bothers you. I could live with it but I'm used to my 23 kids, spouses, and grandkids which is a low roar.
What bothers me is a 4 wheeler or chain saw motor that revs up and then dies back down, over and over and over, kids who jump but do it cautiously do that. They should be cautious but not where I can hear them. Drives me nuts.
That stinks! I hope you find a way around the noise because it does sound like the perfect writer's haven.
I am so sorry your peace has been disturpted. I find it hard to write when there is noise.
Sorry to hear your peace has been shattered on Saturdays. I would suggest an mp3 player loaded with your favorite music.
There are times when I get the urge to write...It just hits me and I need to put it down, before I lose the thought. With my young son needing attention... Thank god for note pads.
Oh dear..... you know I can totally relate to this post... But I'm NOT saying you need to move like I had to. It's amazing how sound travels isn't it? I hope this will just be on Saturday mornings. For one hour....and no more.
I guess it's just a reminder that we can't wait for the perfect conditions for writing. If I did that, I wouldn't write very often at all! Some days we just have to make the best of the noisy, chaotic surroundings and write anyway! :)
Lily! What a pity! All it takes is one noisy neighbour to spoil the peace.Go dancing on saturdays.
What a well set ambience for a writer's desk (bed in your case) and what a way to spoil it all!
I write whenever inspiration inspires me and where ever the place is so long as I can get hold of a pencil and a clean sheet of paper.
Wow. My dream is to have a writing room with a view. That's breathtaking.
I think it would annoy me, I prefer total peace! Living in the sticks of the countryside I guess I have got used to quiet too much.
CJ xx
At least it's only on Saturdays. I hope they don't take over any other days of the week. Maybe if it was nice, soft classical music it wouldn't be so bad.
Becoming an author - how truly you speak from my mind. I love your writing,it is easy to follow and very engaging.
Firmness of resolve makes a person great, in any field of endeavour. There will always be crossroads where a choice must be made. The choice to heed the desires of the lower self may lead to some gratification of those desires, but to what end?Firmness of resolve makes a peson great, in any field of endeavour. SO why does it sometimes seem impossible to do what you know you should?
I love creative writing as well and try to practice and write more and more...I am happy I have finally found someone who understands. Maybe you can have a look at my blogs and give me some advice as well. Thank you for sharing your blog with. You are in my FUN CLUB
